Dabur India
As probably the world’s largest science-based Ayurveda and natural products maker, Dabur India has a portfolio of over 350 trusted products spread across 21 categories and over 1,000 SKUs. The company believes that product innovation is the key to growth. With the demand growth across the FMCG industry remaining low, the year 2016 saw an increase in promotional interventions across their portfolio to spur demand growth, and supply chain played a pivotal role in rolling out these consumer promotions more effectively and also ensuring their availability across geographies in the least possible time.
Agarwal points out that recent years have shown the emergence of low-priced packs in the market. This is particularly true for rural India. Manufacturing lines are now required to produce multiple products and packs in addition to the complicated promotional packaging or offerings. Reduction in line capacity is inevitable and the increase in variety has only made it more challenging. One of the solutions is to delink packing operation from the manufacturing line, enabling the lines to run at OEM speeds and deliver more of the desired products with the same assets.
He adds that as the complexities grow, most mega manufacturing sites going forward will be equipped with an annexe facility, which will support the packing operation. “Process integration also needs to be considered in SAP through added transactions to maintain the hygiene of the accounting process and control any wastage during the off-line activity,” states Agarwal.
