Daimler India Commercial Vehicles
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has been steadily increasing its stronghold in India. In addition to this, they have also been using the country as a manufacturing base to export products since 2013. In a show of their strength in this area and, of course, their strong local manufacturing and supply chain network, the company last year crossed 5,000 units in exports. Volumes have been steadily growing for the automotive leader, in line with the number of markets being served, which currently includes more than 20 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. They have plans to add more than 10 new markets in the course of this year.
Daimler seems quite positive about the Indian market, both in terms of sales and a manufacturing hub, and has shown this by investing further in the country. In 2016, they opened a regional centre for Southern Asia in Chennai, which marks the last in a series of launches that included regional centres dedicated to markets in Africa, South East Asia and Latin America. The new operations in Chennai will oversee sales and service in the six neighbouring markets of Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. This is all in an effort to offer tailored products and services from a single source to customers in these emerging markets.
