Power List - India Yamaha Motor

The focus of vehicles has changed for all auto industry companies. Japanese two wheeler company India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has forayed into the 125cc scooter segment with two models (drum and disc brakes) and also launched a BS-VI emission norm compliant MT-15, a 155 cc motorcycle. The company started production last month. An innovation here is that the new Fascino 125cc scooters comes with ‘Stop and Start’ system that prevents engine
idling when the vehicle is not in motion and would start with a single throttle twist. The company invested about Rs 14 crore to roll out BS-VI compliant two wheelers.

In May, the two-wheeler giant announced a production milestone of 10 million units. The company achieved the landmark production figure in 34 years of
its presence, having begun operations in 1985. The production number is a result of Yamaha’s three manufacturing facilities located in Surajpur, Faridabad and Chennai that have contributed to the achievement. The production volumes have not only catered to the domestic demand but for exports as well. Paul guides the team to adopt innovative ways and processes at the shop floor. “Shop floor employees need to be guided and motivated so as to harness their creativity. Over the years, we have adopted several initiatives which has improved productivity and helped improve business. In addition to the traditional
methods of 5S, TPM, Quality Circles, Cost down projects, localisation etc., new initiatives like achieving the Theoretical Value in production, improving logistics efficiency, reducing ordering and manufacturing LT, building energy efficient factory, solar power captive consumption and many more best practices to optimise all the resources have been promoted,” he adds.Sa
