At Hindalco, choices are guided by its purpose, which is “to manufacture materials that make the world greener – stronger – smarter”. In the last few years, the Business has delivered smart solutions for end applications such as ceramics for high-end electronics and activated alumina for catalytic converters. In raw material sourcing, it has shifted to alternate sources of bauxite that are environmentally sustainable. Within the factories, it has focused extensively on digitisation and digitalisation.

It is experiencing the power of Digitalisation and Industry 4.0. It has built a roadmap for implementing Digitalisation from mines to market i.e. covering all steps of the value chain including mining, factory operations, logistics, sourcing and reaching out to the customer. It is at different stages of execution in different locations. Some important focus areas include ensuring our machines are connected, equipment and processes speak to our people, data is democratised and is available at all times. Already,  its people are spending lesser time in collecting and monitoring data and more time in analysis and improvements.

It has scanned the digital eco-system for various tools and technologies and are actively deploying them in areas such as real-time information management, advanced process control, connected workforce for safety, material flow control, inventory management, logistics control and in being connected to our customers in real-time.
