The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) aims to manufacture and sell another million “green vehicles” in the next couple of years as it accelerates its eco-friendly mobility drive.

Its concept Futuro-e, an electric SUV, is being shown for the first time globally at Auto Expo, reflecting the importance of Indian customers in Suzuki’s business. The Futuro-e has been conceptualised and designed in India by the company. The next million green vehicles from company will include a range of technologies and power trains such as CNGs, smart hybrids, strong hybrids and electric vehicles.

It is banking on customers to accept and upgrade to new technology including the electrified powertrain. Mass acceptance will give OEMs desired volumes
to bring in localisation benefits to customers.

The company is committed to CNG technology and in the coming times it plans to expand its CNG portfolio to include many more models. In terms of its manufacturing, the plant in Manesar is state-of-the-art and has a total of 1,100 robots, most of which are used for precision welding of the chassis.

These robots are all made for very specific purposes. As for workers, there are a total of 7,000 pairs of hands who work in the factory with high precision to produce these cars. These workers, along with the robots produce 3,100 cars per day – about 2.15 cars per minute. They are able to do this while maintaining
98% efficiency with less than 1.8 minutes of assembly line stoppage in a 480 min shift. If you add 2,700 cars produced in Gurgaon plant, MSIL produces one car every 10 secs.
