Bombardier Transportation
Bombardier Transportation operates a railway vehicle manufacturing site and bogie assembly hall at Savli near Vadodara, Gujarat. At the Savli site, the company is currently manufacturing complete trains for Queensland in Australia and Delhi, along with supply bogie components for their projects in Australia, Brazil and Saudi Arabia. Bombardier is actively collaborating in the Make in India programme by delivering rail vehicles, products and solutions that are developed locally, for both Indian and foreign markets.
The Savli site has generated employment for nearly 1,400 highly skilled team members and indirectly generates approximately 5,000 jobs in India. Savli is one of the first companies to use robotic welding technology in rail car bodies manufacturing in India. The plant was built in a record time of just 18 months, making Vadodara, the only city in the world for Bombardier with the capacity to deliver all key electrical and mechanical components for the manufacturing of railway vehicles. During 2016, they focused on quality product delivery and put new processes in place to eliminate errors and reduce unplanned costs through building a complete picture of operational activities from a Master Project Schedule (MPS).
“Rolling stock product delivery has regular fluctuations and daily monitoring is required to ensure that the trains are delivered to our customers on time. Standardisation of processes, systems and tools and collaboration between teams across sites and functions is one of the keys to mitigate business fluctuations,” believes Kumaraswamy.
