The pandemic made businesses relook operations while compelling teams to a work from home model. At Alstom, multiple functions have been revamped and are being undertaken online. The team had devised mechanisms to ensure that quality is not impacted. It started inspections by leveraging technology and using ‘Assisted Reality platform’ for remote assistance. The crisis acted like a magnifying glass, making clear which processes worked well and which ones needed to be changed. Our digital Global Single Instance (GSI) landscape can be a strong operational performance lever.

With the advent of Unlock 1.0, the teams restarted following all permissions and kept safety as a priority. Manufacturing is dependent on a robust supply chain and the industry faced disruption during the lockdown. Most of its sourcing is indigenous and it strengthened its planning processes to minimise impact on business and customers. In the long run, it is gearing up to drive digitalisation, predictive supply chain planning and smart logistics to achieve complete end-to-end transparency in supply chain. With Atmanirbhar Bharat, its efforts are towards creating an ecosystem within the country. While the pandemic did bring hurdles, it sees opportunity to source from India, thereby making the country self-sufficient.
