Power List 2020 – Dalmia Cement
The country’s infrastructure sector is at the cusp of unprecedented growth, strengthening prospects for significant pickup in demand for cement in coming years. Recently, the government has also unveiled Rs. 102 lakh cr of infrastructure projects as part of spending push in the sector. This has created a positive outlook on infrastructure projects. We firmly believe that this growing demand will create a need for sustainable business solutions. For Dalmia Bharat, this year is about social change. Last year, we signed up with Carbon Clean Solutions to build India’s largest carbon capture plant, making us the first to become carbon negative by 2040.
To reiterate our commitment towards sustainability, we have invested in low carbon technologies that have translated into enhanced resource and energy efficiency across our production capacities. It is the spirit of innovation that has fuelled the development of specialty cements that is sustainable and environment friendly. Moreover, through such innovations, we have increased the proportion of eco-friendly blended cement within our product mix to about 70% thereby reducing the company’s carbon footprint. We have put up a green fuel feeding system which is enabling us to use waste material of other industries. We plan to invest substantially in this endeavour, which will help us in cost optimisation through reduction in fuel cost. Going forward, we plan to use municipal, plastic & pharma waste. This would not only help in managing waste of other industries but also help in creating a green environment. Our aim is to have thermal fuel substitution by about 35%.
