Coroplus is Sandvik Coromant’s concept for addressing Industry 4.0. Its platform consists of three areas, pre-machining, in-machining and post-machining. Within pre-machining, CoroPlus ToolLibrary helps to create and export tool assemblies to CAM, simulation or tool management software. Within in-machining, the company has introduced two intelligent tools, one tool is called Coroboard plus. It’s a fine boring tool and can adjust through a Bluetooth. So you can adjust a diameter wirelessly within one micron. The 2nd tool is a silent tool and has sensors built into it and Bluetooth connectivity. It can feel vibration force, temperatures which could be fed displayed on an iPad or surface pro or even in a control system.
Today’s current machines are not capable of managing the tools and hence the company has ongoing discussions with leading machine tool makers on increasing technology readiness level because we will launch more and more intelligent tools in the future with sensors. It also has algorithms that enable reducing the feed or speed of operations. Through Prometec that it acquired a year ago, the company hopes to build solutions that are not available today.
Sandvik Coromant has partnered with Microsoft and Assure Cloud and works with them.
