Under its “My Mumbai Green Mumbai” initiative Tata Power has launched refrigerator exchange programme and re-opened the AC programme.

Tata Power recently launched India’s first‘thermal energy storage incentive programme’based on ‘thermal energy storagetechnology’ under Demand Side Management(DSM) Initiative’. Under its “MyMumbai Green Mumbai” programme TataPower has launched refrigerator exchangeprogramme and re-opened the AC programmeto allow consumers to exchangetheir inefficient electrical appliances forenergy efficient ones.

In the first phase, Tata Power has enrolleda thermal storage capacity of over15,000 TRH, achieving a load shift of over3.6 million units of energy from peak to offpeak hours. Padmanabhan, executive director, operations, Tata Power, said, “Ourprogramme will not only support our consumersto bring down the peak power requirements but will also offer monetarybenefit on each unit of electricity shiftedfrom peak hour to off-peak hour as an incentive.”With the use of ‘thermal energystorage technology’ the central AC plantsrun in the night and converts water inthe form of ice. During the day-time,the AC plants are switched off and thebuilding is cooled by the energy storedin the form ice. Thus, air-conditioning isprovided during the day without actuallyrunning the large AC plants.

Padmanabhan adds, “We have receivedan overwhelming response forthe programme and will continue to sensitiseour consumers with the benefits ofmanaging their demand.” Consumersparticipating include Hotel Meluha, SupremeIT Park and GCC Club.
