Sona BLW Precision Forgings has signed a technology licensing agreement with Equipmake, a UK-based technology company that develops high-performance electric powertrains.
Equipmake will license certain patented spoke motors and inverter technology in the power range of 100kW to 440 kW to Sona Comstar. This will allow the company to manufacture and sell EV Powertrains, sub-systems and components for electric cars, buses, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles.
The sales and the business development front in India, Thailand and select South Asian countries will be handled by Sona Comstar. Equipmake will lead the sales in the rest of the world.
Commenting on the partnership Sat Mohan Gupta, CEO of Motor Business at Sona Comstar, highlighted that with Equipmake’s advanced technology and Sona Comstar’s manufacturing and sales capabilities, the company will aim to offer high-performance, efficient, cost-effective electrified drivetrain solutions to its customers.
Equipmake is excited to partner with Sona Comstar added Ian Foley, CEO, Equipmake. According to him, this will help the organisation deliver its technology to significant markets including India.
Sona Comstar will also manufacture and sell EV Powertrains, sub-systems and components for the target applications to Equipmake and its global customers in other overseas markets. The serial production of these systems is expected to commence in 2025.
