“Economy in India is seeing buoyant growth across industries, including the machine tool industry,” said Vijay Pratap Singh, Country Business Unit Head, Motion Control Siemens Ltd in the context of IMTEX 23 and went on to elucidate on top trends forging the contours of factory automation and the how his company was strategizing on it. Singh pointed to three major trends in the machine tools industry.
Firstly, customers are demanding more high-end, larger, multi-tasking machines with the latest automation capabilities. Siemens is best suited to address this trend towards high-end machining because of Siemens’ integrated portfolio.
Secondly, the industry is adopting digitalization, which means companies are looking for smarter solutions to increase their productivity and efficiency and hence thereby their profits.
On digitalization, he cited the examples of ‘Create MyVirtual Machine’ and ‘Run MyVirtual Machine’, which comes intrinsically inbuilt with Siemens portfolio. This supports the manufacturer in manufacturing machine tools or components of machine tools to reduce their time to market. He had several such examples that were promoted at the company’s pavilion at IMTEX 23.
Thirdly, there is a trend towards diversification. This is not strictly a technology trend but has developed into one. If a company is entering a new market, it has to adapt to new technology, which may be at a nascent stage or not there with the company.
On diversification, he cited the example of additive manufacturing and highlighted that Siemens had a complete ecosystem to support the additive manufacturers. He highlighted that two of the first movers in India who diversified from machine tools to additive are working with Siemens. Siemens has a strong portfolio with them, and they are working together to find solutions and scale up.
Singh went on to elaborate further on various aspects of Digitalization. “Be it MSMEs or Large Scale Industry, what matters more is not how much you invest but what Return on Investment you are getting,” said Singh explaining how investing in the right digitalization solutions will provide expected returns and benefits to organizations.
