RealWear, a provider of assisted reality solutions for frontline industrial workers, has announced that Orkel, a Norwegian manufacturer of compactors and other machinery for agriculture, industry and waste management, has standardised on RealWear wearable devices across its business and dealer network.
RealWear’s wearable technology enables Orkel to connect its customers with service technicians without the need for in-person visits, saving time and costs associated with travel. Orkel’s after-sales support offering includes a kit consisting of the HMT-1, a branded Orkel hardhat, and mounting clips, enabling customers to contact Orkel technicians using voice commands, which provides real-time support. Orkel uses RealWear partner VSight Remote to guide customers remotely and read machine telemetry data to target specific errors.
Magnus NordÃ¥s Lervik, Project Engineer, Orkel, expressed admiration for the RealWear technology, stating that it allows him, as a research and development engineer, to observe the work being done. He further explained that by using RealWear, he is able to learn better ways to design future machinery by observing common issues that arise and how they are fixed. According to Lervik, this technology also enables Orkel’s research and development team to take into account the operator’s perspective when designing future products.
According to Jon Arnold, Vice President, EMEA, RealWear, Orkel and its customers have experienced several benefits since deploying RealWear’s technology with VSight and Microsoft Teams. He noted that downtime in the agricultural industry can impact productivity and efficiency, particularly during shorter harvest seasons. Therefore, RealWear’s remote assistance is becoming a game changer for the farming and agriculture industry, where time is of the essence.
