Palo Alto Networks simplifies AI-powered OT security

New Zero Trust OT Security solution secures critical infrastructure without additional sensors

Palo Alto Networks has introduced a new Zero Trust OT Security solution to help companies secure their operational technology (OT) environments, which are increasingly being targeted by cyberattacks.

These attacks can disrupt operations and cause damage that extends beyond revenue and reputation to human safety and critical infrastructure. The new solution includes a cloud-delivered Industrial OT Security service that can be enabled by Palo Alto Networks’ active customers without the need for additional sensors. The solution uses an AI-powered foundation for granular visibility and effective inline security to protect hard-to-secure OT assets from sophisticated threats.

The Industrial OT Security service features an ML-powered OT visibility engine that recognizes hundreds of unique OT device profiles and over 1,000 OT/Industrial Control System (ICS) applications, with hundreds of distinct OT threat signatures. The service provides security teams with the ability to proactively understand risk and apply controls by continuously observing, categorizing, and visualizing asset behaviour.

The solution secures multiple OT use cases with consistent Zero Trust policies that are managed centrally, including OT assets and networks, remote access, and 5G-connected devices. According to Dave Gruber, principal analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, defending against increasingly sophisticated threats requires expanded security strategies that can provide visibility, context, and Zero Trust capabilities across both OT and IT networks, devices, applications, and users. The Palo Alto Networks solution embraces this unified security model, promising to help protect complex OT environments.
