NTPC and Chempolis India have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the feasibility of setting up a bamboo-based bio-refinery. The biorefinery project shall utilise bamboo for the production of 2G ethanol, bio-coal for thermal power plants and other value-added products. Chempolis India is a Fortum group associate company and a biorefining technology provider.
As per NTPC, this project aligns with its commitment to sustainable development and creating new opportunities for local communities. It is planned as an integration project with NTPC Bongaigaon plant, which will support steam, power and other utility requirements.
The project aligns with the utility company’s commitment to sustainable development, which also includes facilitating the use of locally available resources and creating new opportunities for local communities. NTPC has revised its renewable energy (RE) targets to 60 GW from 30 GW by 2032, as a move towards achieving ‘net zero’ emissions by 2070.
