Takashi Yamazaki, President, Yamazaki Mazak Corporation, had been coming to IMTEX for many years. After a four-year gap due to the pandemic, he was happy to be in India, where he had made many friends beyond his customer circle.
Giving his perspective on Indian manufacturing as he sees it today, Yamazaki said, “Indian manufacturing is growing. I strongly feel that we have selected the right time to be in India to manufacture our machines; and a very right time to start the operation this year.”
Over the last 20 years, the machine tool industry has changed a lot, he felt. What he heard from the customers ten years back differs from what he hears today. He talked about his business in India. “The turn-key solution from us for the Horizontal Machine segment has made us a big volume in sales,” said Takashi san.
He shared his thoughts on the technology front that the customers would find helpful. “On technology, I can say that the friction part is one of the know-how which we already have with us which the customers can avail of with our turn-key solution. They need the experience, they need the know-how, and they need our proposal. We must make it happen,” he enthused.
At IMTEX 23, he was looking not merely at the customer just buying a single unit but at macro number of huge investments in the horizontal machine segment. Together with automation, it is a huge business model,” said Yamazaki.
Yamazaki visits machine sites across the world. The stated objective of these visits was to go beyond what the sales report from his sales team said and see first-hand what was happening at the sites.
“I believe it is not the machine that gives us business. It is the customer site, listening to the customer’s shop floor and talking to the customers’ management teams that give business,” said Yamazaki san.
“Without talking to the customers, you cannot get the hint; the feedback I get from India, I take it directly back to our development teams.” Yamazaki san also talked about the software developed by his company while talking about intelligent machining. It is a unique software called the Mazatrol DX designed to enable unparalleled productivity through faster setups and cycle times. It helps improve the surface finish, high precision machining, and is easy to operate.
Anil Bhardwaj, MD, Mazak India and Chairman Vivek Shama accompanied Yamazaki san.
