Hitachi Energy opened a new factory in Chennai focused on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and power quality solutions. The factory will produce advanced power electronics for HVDC Light®, HVDC Classic, and STATCOM, in addition to the MACHâ„¢ control and protection system, which supports transmission and power quality solutions. These solutions are essential for integrating renewable energy and stabilizing electrical grids, making the factory a significant part of the energy transition acceleration effort. It will increase Hitachi Energy’s production capacity and provide advanced solutions to both the Indian market and the global demand for renewable energy solutions.
The factory, the latest HVDC factory, and the world’s second testing lab for power quality control solutions will cater to India’s growing number of high-voltage transmission projects and also support global HVDC installations.
Hitachi Energy has executed more than half of India’s HVDC links, including the North-East Agra link and the 6,000-megawatt Raigarh-Pugalur link. The North-East Agra link is the world’s first multi-terminal ultra-high voltage link, which supplies clean power to 90 million people. The Raigarh-Pugalur link transmits power from central India to consumers in the south, covering a distance of 1,830 km.
According to Claudio Facchin, CEO of Hitachi Energy, investments in grid infrastructure and innovation, along with a sustainable energy system, are key to advancing a sustainable energy future for all. N Venu, Managing Director and CEO, India & South Asia, Hitachi Energy, added that the new facility would help accelerate production and enable customers to achieve a sustainable energy future for all.
