ELGI Sauer Compressors takes a leap forward with high-tech manufacturing hub in Coimbatore

Extends engineering support to the Sauer Compressors Group worldwide for new product development and prototype testing.

ELGI Sauer Compressors Ltd expands with a new manufacturing facility in Coimbatore, India. The Rs 400 million investment spans 50,000 sq. ft. and will produce advanced compressors for various industries. The facility includes an Engineering Support Centre and prioritises environmental sustainability with energy-efficient features and circularity initiatives. The factory adheres to green building principles certified by IGBC.

Dr. Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director, Elgi Equipments Limited, highlighted the significance of the ELGi Sauer joint venture, which was established in 2008. He emphasised that the collaboration brought forth advanced technology, a broader range of products, improved availability through indigenisation, and enhanced product support for the Indian Navy, marine sector, and related special applications.

Over the course of 14 years, the partnership had successfully established a distinctive identity in the high-pressure market within India and neighbouring countries. Varadaraj emphasised that ELGI Sauer Compressors had gained strong local market knowledge, increasing prospects for indigenisation to enhance competitiveness, and the ability to deliver tailor-made solutions.

Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of agile operations, expanded capacity, and local-for-local supply to effectively meet customer demands. With the inauguration of the world-class facility, ELGI Sauer Compressors was strategically positioned to cater to new markets and achieve long-term business objectives.

Hendrik Murmann, CEO, Sauer Compressors Group, expressed his satisfaction and pride regarding the progress made by their Indian colleagues in establishing a strong presence in India over the years. He acknowledged their significant contributions, emphasising their importance as an integral part of the global Sauer Compressors Company Group, and commended their efforts in enhancing the company’s technical capabilities.

Furthermore, Murmann extended gratitude to their partner ELGI, highlighting their nearly 15 years of amicable and dependable collaboration. He expressed confidence that the expansion plans would mark the beginning of a new chapter in their ongoing success story.

Meanwhile, Satish Kini, Chief Executive Officer, ELGI Sauer Compressors Limited, regarded the establishment of the expanded factory as a significant milestone in their pursuit of market leadership and continued business expansion in India. He emphasised the factory’s augmented manufacturing capacity, stating that it would facilitate the consolidation of engineering, indigenisation, and product support capabilities of both entities involved, thereby fostering the development of a robust aftermarket network. Kini expressed his confidence that the enhanced facilities would contribute to the overall growth and success of ELGI Sauer Compressors, reinforcing their position in the market.
