Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which is a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited (GIL), has put into operation a Disabled Aircraft Recovery (DAR) Kit at Delhi Airport, in accordance with the regulations of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The mobile kit, which was procured from Germany’s M/S Kunz, can recover narrow-body planes like the A320 and 737 and perform one-sided recovery of wide-body aircraft in a short time, with a maximum capacity of 90 tonnes to recover Code F-compliant aircraft during an aircraft incident on the runway.
The DAR kit is used to recover an aircraft that is unable to move under its own power or through the use of a tow tractor and tow bar. In case of an emergency, the DAR Kit can be deployed in 120 minutes after mandatory clearances, significantly reducing response time and passenger inconvenience or flight disruptions. Although a 15-member crew is required to operate the DAR Kit, 36 Delhi Airport personnel have been trained in collaboration with M/s Kunz to ensure readiness at all times. T
he DAR Kit consists of several components, including recovery lifting bags, tethering equipment, de-bogging kit, recovery trailer & fuselage transition, recovery dolly, and lifting sling, all of which are used to lift, balance, and transport the disabled aircraft. CEO-DIAL, Mr Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, stated that the DAR Kit uses advanced technology to minimize flight operations’ disruptions during a disabled aircraft situation, and its deployment emphasizes their dedication to providing a world-class experience to passengers.
