DHL Express has introduced GoGreen Plus, a new service that lets customers minimise the carbon footprint of their shipments by utilizing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). DHL’s recent partnerships with bp and Neste have enabled the company to offer the new GoGreen Plus service. They will supply SAF to DHL Express hubs across the world, with the renewable component of the fuel created from waste oils. Compared to traditional jet fuel, SAF from waste and residues has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% during its lifecycle.
DHL Express CEO John Pearson said that the company understands the commitment of its customers to reducing their environmental impact and is happy to provide them with a means to achieve it. He emphasized that SAF is the most effective way to help customers make their supply chains more sustainable and reduce the carbon footprint of their shipments.
By using GoGreen Plus, customers can minimize their Scope 3 emissions, which are the indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in a company’s value chain, including downstream transportation and distribution. Unlike offsetting initiatives, GoGreen Plus (insetting) reduces emissions within the logistics sector and can be used for DHL customers’ voluntary emission reporting, following the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) philosophy.
Initially, the service will be available in the UK, followed by Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Starting this month, customers in these countries can choose GoGreen Plus when selecting their shipping service through MyDHL+, the company’s online shipping and tracking platform. The GoGreen Plus service will soon be offered to all DHL Express customers worldwide, with the option to customize the CO2e reduction and the quantity of SAF they want to use.
