ABB India has opened a new factory in Nashik, doubling its production capacity for Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and contributing to the nation’s net-zero journey. The 78,000 sq. ft. factory will manufacture primary and secondary GIS for various industries, including power distribution, smart cities, data centres, transport, tunnels, ports, highways, and infrastructure development.

The new factory is equipped with smart and lean manufacturing capabilities, deploying advanced robotics for enhanced productivity and real-time data. It is developed in line with ABB’s Sustainability Strategy 2030 targets and is built according to Indian Green Building Council norms to optimize water and energy use. The factory will use 100% renewable electricity and carefully selected materials to minimize life-cycle environmental impacts.

ABB India has also launched PrimeGear™ ZX0, an eco-efficient switchgear built on SF6-free ecoGIS™ with Dry Air technology for applications up to 12kV. PrimeGear™ ZX0 generates 20% less heat and reduces the product installation footprint by up to 25% compared to conventional switchgear, enabling remote monitoring and contributing to a low-carbon society.

The factory’s launch of PrimeGear™ ZX0 reinforces ABB’s commitment to enabling a more sustainable and resource-efficient future, using global technology coupled with local engineering to introduce greener alternatives to the market. The new GIS factory demonstrates ABB’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India, catering to increasing domestic and export demands from over 100 countries.
