Germany to invest in greening the urban mobility in India

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has pledged to invest €1 billion over the next five years on environmentally-friendly urban mobility in India. During her India visit, she emphasised on need of green mobility. While speaking at the event she said, “We plan to invest €1 billion towards this effort.”

Moreover, she also announced Germany’s plan to earmark €200 million towards transforming bus sector in Tamil Nadu.

Touching upon the topic of worsened air pollution in Delhi, she highlighted the need of replacing current vehicles with electric vehicles in the city.

Also, she mentioned apart from automotive Germany would like happy to collaborate with India on various other segment including agriculture, artificial intelligence and healthcare.

On Friday, India and Germany agreed to deepen efforts to resume stalled negotiations for a free trade agreement between India and the European Union (EU).
