Hero Electronix will invest Rs 150-200 cr, enter the consumer space with Qubo

Hero Electronix plans to invest Rs 150-200 crore in the coming years mainly in its new consumer technology brand ‘Qubo’ that will offer a portfolio of connected smart devices powered by AI. The company, which is part of the Hero Group, has launched a voice-controlled smart indoor camera and smart sensors (for doors, gas and smoke leaks) under the ‘Qubo’ brand.

We want to bring Qubo to one million homes in the next 3 to 5 years. We have been at the forefront of engineering technology and services for companies with Tessolve, Mybox and Zenatix. We see a great opportunity in the consumer space for construction products that can significantly impact our lives, said the founding director of Hero Electronix, Ujjwal Munjal.

He added that the company has already invested about Rs 350 in the company through these brands and plans to invest another Rs 150-200 in the coming years.

We have spent about two years in R&D of these products focusing on consumer needs along with aspects such as encryption and security. We are starting with smart cameras and sensors and will also bring more products in the home, automotive and children categories, he said.

Priced at Rs 13,490, the ‘Qubo’ smart indoor camera features Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant, a Full HD camera, 2.8-inch LCD screen for controls and offers encrypted video streaming and storage. It also acts as the smart home centre to control the sensors (available for approximately Rs 3,000 each).

The device houses a Qualcomm custom secure silicon chip, with a trusted root based on PKI, which makes it tamper-proof and protects against malware. Data transmission and storage also meets the highest global standards of cryptographic algorithms and security, Electronix CEO Nikhil Rajpal said.

He added that the products have been designed and designed by the internal Hero Electronix team.

Hero Electronix, which was founded in 2015 and recorded revenues of around Rs 600 million, plans to launch more than 10 smart products in the categories of home automation, automotive and entertainment in the next two years. These would include products such as smart plugs, smart video doorbells and monitors for baby rooms.
