Westermo has unveiled a range of compact industrial Ethernet switches and routers to cater to the growing demand for high-performance data communication networks in transportation, manufacturing, and energy distribution. The newly launched Lynx 3000 series is specifically designed to deliver outstanding levels of performance, reliability, and security. It features gigabit speeds and advanced functionality to support the needs of both current and future networks.
The Lynx 3000 series offers layer 2 and layer 3 functionality, enabling the management of complex ring networks and routing solutions. The series has entry-level models optimised for fast Ethernet applications and variants supporting up to 2.5 gigabit speeds making it ideal for handling big data, high bandwidth and mission-critical applications.
The series is powered by the WeOS operating system which helps in reducing complexity by simplifying the installation, operation and maintenance of individual devices and complete networks. This dismisses the need for specialised IT support or training.
The Lynx 3000 series offers an extensive suite of cybersecurity tools that mitigate cyberattack risks and enhance cyber resilience. These can be used to build networks in compliance with the IEC 62443 standard, which defines technical security requirements for data communication network components.
The switches can help meet a broad range of industry standards and can be used in the harshest of industrial environments such as high electromagnetic interference, extreme temperatures, humidity and vibration. The Lynx 3000 series is designed for heavy industry, marine and rail trackside applications.
The Lynx 3000 series also offers Power over Ethernet (PoE) capable versions, which simplify network complexity and reduce costs by enabling communication and power transmission over a single cable. These switches, equipped with advanced PoE management features and up to 30W power output per port, can be utilised for connecting HD IP CCTV cameras in industrial settings and other power-intensive applications.
Henrik Jerregård, VP of Products and Marketing at Westermo, stated that the series has been designed to meet present and future industrial data network needs. This powerful switching platform also offers impressive performance and can effectively handle the increased bandwidth requirements of future networks, he added.
