Wipro GE Healthcare, one of the leading Ultrasound manufacturers in India has enhanced its local capability to manufacture a wide range of Versana products in India.
This is as part of the company’s strategy to expand localization and strengthen the supplier ecosystem. The Versana Ultrsound range is part of the company’s affordable product portfolio and will be manufactured at its state-of-the-art facility in Kadugodi, Bengaluru.
Commenting on the announcement, Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare, South Asia said, “With this new local manufacturing we will cut down our imports of the Versana range by half. Long before ‘Make in India’ and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ became catchphrases, Wipro GE Healthcare has been manufacturing ultrasounds and other medtech equipment in India since 1992. With local manufacturing we can fast-track the availability of these critical care equipment. The price benefit will also be passed on to our customers.”
“By end of 2021, the plan is to locally manufacture seven ultrasound products catering to OB/GYN, radiology, cardiology, anesthesia, emergency, and critical care segments,” he added.
This is another significant step by the 30-year-old Wipro GE Healthcare, joint venture in India to improve availability and access to quality healthcare in the country. The demand for affordable ultrasound devices is surging across the nation especially in smaller towns and this additional local manufacturing capability will help the company serve this increasing need better. Currently a Versana ultrasound device can be built in India with a 1.5-hour turnaround time owing to agile supply chain ecosystem, thus enhancing responsiveness to customers requirements.
