Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. commences commercial production of Line 2 at its Bengal Cement Works unit

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has commenced commercial production of Line 2, having a capacity of 2.25mtpa, at its Bengal Cement Works (BCW) Unit in Midnapore, West Bengal. With this addition, the company’s overall capacity at the Midnapore plant has now gone to 4mtpa per annum.

Post the lockdown-led demand disruption, the cement sector has been continuously witnessing buoyancy across the country. This is largely led by revival in demand from the infrastructure and urban housing sectors along with the demand from individual home builders and government’s rural housing schemes especially from east and central regions.

Ujjwal Batria, COO, Dalmia Cement (Bharat), said, “The people of Salboni have supported us and let us contribute to the state’s growth story. This addition will also play a crucial role to ensure sufficient and timely supplies thereby adding to efficiencies of the supply chain. To ensure that the demand is met in a sustainable manner, we have deployed latest machinery and technology at our BCW unit and will be aiming to produce 100% blended cement. This step is also in line with our commitment to become carbon negative by 2040.”

Several new quality-control processes and technologies have been deployed at the plant to ensure automated quality control without human intervention. That, combined with superior raw materials, will improve the overall quality of the cement output. Further, online particle size analyzer will ensure uniform distribution of particle size, making concrete dense, impervious, and highly reactive, leading to higher strength and durability of construction.
