The Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India and FICCI organised the India Steel 2023 conference and exhibition, which substantially improved over the 2019 edition. The event ran for three days and saw over 12,000 visitors, 8,300 B2B meetings, and 130 G2B meetings. This year’s conference boasted more participating countries (20) and exhibitors (240) compared to 2019.
The event provided a platform for dialogue and collaboration, with 80 speakers discussing key challenges and opportunities for the sector, such as policy frameworks, circular economy, by-product utilisation, and increasing steel usage. Industry leaders urged the government and the Ministry of Steel to take action towards reducing dependence on other countries for raw materials and technology. The event showcased advanced technologies, products, and solutions from leading private sector organisations such as Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel & Power, AM/NS India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Welspun Corp, and L&T.
In terms of future goals, Sanjay Roy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, emphasised the need for innovation to achieve national steel policy goals and meet COP26 commitments. Industry leaders highlighted the importance of enhancing coking coal production to meet future demand, and called for more industry research on New Age steel production. Abhijeet Narendra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, stressed on the importance of resource conservation and sustainable solutions, while Ruchika Chaudhry Govil, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Steel, called for more industry research on New Age steel production.
