For over 100 years, Ceratizit Group, a high-technology engineering group, has been developing and producing sophisticated hard material cutting and wear protection solutions. Its products range from highly specialised cutting tools, indexable inserts, and carbide rods to new carbide and cermet grades for wood and stone work.

Saranath Bhaduri, the Senior Vice President Operations, has experience in areas like operation, maintenance, R&D, quality management etc. Ceratizit, a technology leader in the carbide industry, holds more than 1000 patents and utility models worldwide. So what is the future of digitisation in the industry, according to Saranath? “The main focus is on end-to-end visibility and creating it in real-time to manage operations more effectively. Sensor-based technology and IIOT with modern software will be the new platform for manufacturing in the coming years. Introduction of proof of concepts (POC) in different manufacturing domains like Energy, maintenance, dash-boarding, optimisation, and analytics have already been implemented across the company. The main focus will be on IIOT, sensors & AI for the next two years.

With a renewed focus on reducing carbon emissions, many countries and organisations are adopting steps to reach SDGs. “India per se has 1.8 metric tons per capita emission, far lower than developed countries. But we should keep one thing in mind the population of India is far more than that of developed countries. Hence this figure is not reflecting the actual picture. As a company, CERATIZIT has made a goal to be carbon neutral by the year 2025 and by 2030, we should be carbon negative company. A major focus is given to sustainability and reducing carbon footprint across the company. More and more installation of solar panels, efficient energy utilisation and recycling of cemented carbide are the focus area for such things. We are in the process of identifying a carbon footprint for individuals and the entire company and defining clear goals to reduce emissions in a phased manner, says Saranath. Make in India has come with a lot of benefits and advantages for the Indian economy. Due to this, companies from across the globe are making huge investments in Make in India project. They have thrived, making India a hub for manufacturing companies overshadowing the developed countries.
