Training is key

The IMTMA technology centre conducts a total of 9000 man days of technical training programmes on more than 80 topics for the benefit of the industry. |

“Training is one of our focus areas of people development to help the industry,” asserted Krishnan. This technology centre houses a design institute as well as a finishing school. The design institute is a world class facility and has a digital class room with CAD independent 20 work stations. The institute is conceived as a hi-tech training centre for machine tool designers.

It focuses on providing intensive training in all aspects of machine tool design right from design fundamentals, drafting, design of machine elements, engineering materials, heat treatment, manufacturing drawing standards, 3D par for engineers from industry as well individuals from colleges, assembly modelling, detailing, and designing one complete real machine as a project.

“The faculty at the design institute consists of industry experts and the programme contains both theoretical and practical sessions with hands on training. The courseware has been designed by industry experts who have a vast machine tool designing experience and a thorough understanding of industry needs,” avowed Krishnan.

He further added, “Participants are made industry ready to work from day one in any business. We set up the institute to mould fresh and practicing engineers into specialised machine tool designers. Through training programmes provided by industry experts, new recruits and nominated individuals get trained to design for accuracy, manufacturing and assembly.”

Once they are trained it is also necessary to polish them. This is done at IMTMA’s finishing school. “Every company today runs a finishing school to train fresh graduates through a training programme. While large companies have the bandwidth and ability to train, most of the time it is on the job. Our idea of finishing school is to reduce this gap by providing appropriate training programmes,” mentioned Krishnan.

The four week programme gives students hands on practice in using production CNC machines, CAD/CAM, metrology equipment, tooling and work holding systems and other accessories that provide expertise and confidence to start their career in manufacturing industries.
