Flipkart to set up fulfillment centre on 140 acre land

E-commerce marketplace Flipkart has 140 acre land parcel to set up their largest fulfilling centre in Asia in Manesar in Gurugram, Haryana, in a bid to ramp up their fulfillment infrastructure to cater to the increased demand post-COVID-19. The executive empowered committee of the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) has approved the land allotment at a cost of Rs 432 crore.

The e-commerce company will set up a logistics park over the next three to five years, which has a potential of a total built-up area of five million sq ft and will be developed in two to three phases. The development is anticipated to cost Rs 3,500 crore and create employment of over 12,000 in the state. Phase-I of the project is likely to be operationalised by 2022.

The corporation has set up a warehousing hub over 285 acre in Manesar, in view of the increasing demand of warehousing from e-commerce companies. The land has been allotted at a cost of Rs 3.09 crore per acre and all infrastructure will be laid by the Flipkart Group. Flipkartwill be engaging closely with sellers, MSMEs & kiranas in the state to on-board them and provide market opportunity. The e-commerce company currently employs over 10,000 people in the state across its supply chain and has created lakhs of indirect jobs.

The company has also partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation’s Logistics Skill Sector Council to provide training on the nuances of supply chain and delivery to ensure skill development, career progression and growth for its employees. Knight Frank was the advisor to Flipkart for this project. The company already has 12 supply chain assets in the state, including supply chain infrastructure for large appliances, mobile, apparel, grocery and furniture.
