To commemorate World Environment Day, Jindal Stainless, organised a plastic waste collection drive across its corporate office and manufacturing plants in Hisar and Jajpur. Hundreds of employees participated in the initiative to highlight company’s commitment to sustainability, responsible waste management practices, and plastic waste reduction. The drive was conducted in association with Green Dream Foundation.

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless stated that he was pleased to conclude the second edition of the company’s plastic waste collection drive. The campaign was expanded to include the manufacturing plants this year, resulting in the collection of over 2 tonnes of plastic waste, he added.

The plastic collection drive witnessed the participation of over 1,500 employees. More than 1,100 kg of plastic waste was collected from Jajpur, over 750 kg from Hisar, and nearly 150 kg from the corporate office in Gurgaon. All participants received tokens of appreciation.

During the fiscal year 2023, comprehensive energy audits, including focused energy efficiency and conservation measures, were conducted at the Jajpur and Hisar plants. These efforts led to significant energy savings of 145 lakh units of electricity and 17,542 billion calories of thermal energy.

Other initiatives undertaken by Jindal Stainless include optimised waste heat recovery systems, utilisation of renewable energy (RE) power, an energy conservation project, switching to rail from road transport, recycling waste materials, and increased RE facilities in the CSR activities. Collectively, these initiatives resulted in a reduction of approximately 1 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions in the last fiscal year (FY23) and an overall reduction of about 2.4 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions in the last two fiscal years (FY22 and FY23).

The collected plastic waste will be transformed into useful products such as chairs, benches, and dustbins. The company plans to place these aesthetic installations in public places after consulting with local government bodies, further enhancing its brand image as a sustainable and environmentally-friendly organisation.
