Delta Electronics India is the Indian subsidiary of Delta Electronics Inc., the world’s largest power management solutions company with a turnover of USD 11.2 billion. Manish Walia, who heads automation at Delta Electronics India, recently spoke to MT about new product launches and digitization in the electronics industry. Walia highlighted the trend towards digitization in the machine tool industry, which is focused on enhancing productivity and efficiency. While historically more inclined towards automation, the industry is now embracing digitization, driven by initiatives like PLI, Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and Make in India, with significant demand coming from sectors such as electronics, aerospace and railways.
Walia identified the supply chain as a significant challenge faced by the industry, but he noted some streamlining in sectors like electronics. He also highlighted demand generation as a challenge, pointing to recession in certain countries, but expressing confidence that things will improve. Walia sees India as having good parameters overall in key areas and believes that managing supply lines and creating demand will help see the industry through.
Walia identified digitization, 3D printing, automation, industry 4.0, IoT and connectivity as key trends being adopted by the machine tool industry. Delta showcased its highly precise and high-speed performance CNC controllers and Electric Servo Press at the IMTEX venue, with the latter integrating key components such as HMI and PLC developed by Delta. Walia also spoke about the budget and the expected strengthening of PLI to attract more investors, highlighting that corporate tax breaks would be helpful. He believes that the infrastructure and manufacturing sectors will grow in the next five to ten years, and the budgets should support their growth. Delta operates in India in three business categories of power electronics, automation and infrastructure.
