Honeywell has announced that its philanthropic arm, Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation (HHSIF), will partner with the Society for Innovation and Development (SID) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to support deep-science startups and encourage scientific entrepreneurship and innovation to benefit society.
The initiative aims to bridge the funding gap that startups face between incubation and early seed investment. This program is part of Honeywell’s Start Up Support Program, which has been running for several years and helps to increase collaboration between industry and technology-based startups for successful outcomes.
The HHSIF has funded close to 30 startups, the majority of which are led by women or teams from underprivileged communities and are focused on developing biotechnology, healthcare, and nanotechnology solutions to pressing healthcare and environmental issues.
Pooja Thakran, Director of HHSIF, stated that by supporting deep-science startups, they are fostering the development of solutions that can address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Honeywell and IISc-SID also recognized and celebrated the contributions of women in science on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
