LMT Tools mainly supplies tool solutions to the automotive industry for machining in milling, threading, tapping, gear cutting, reaming, rolling and advanced tools.
The company boasts of product lines that come with innovative solutions. Ramakant Reddy, MD, LMT Tools, cited examples of innovation in each of these product lines.
He gave the example of an innovative product launched in gear cutting named GearSkyving. The innovation enables a detailed assessment of the relevant process parameters at the design stage, accounting for the customer’s requirements.
For threading, the company has in store a new product development, the Tangential Rolling System EVOline, where external threading takes place using 3D printing with Industry 4.0 possibilities. 3D printing makes it possible for the design to be compact
In advanced tools, LMT has developed an intelligent tool with automatic wear compensation. At the exhibition, along with the new product line, the company promoted the entire range of their tooling solutions.
Reddy shared his thoughts on the various government initiatives to promote Indian manufacturing like the ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’. He reminded that the product lines like his had to be imported from foreign countries. With these government initiatives, India has started producing it locally. He underscored that he had invested 50 crores in 2022 in the venture for capacity expansion and is planning to invest another 50 crores in 2023, looking at the possibilities.
“The country has become more self–reliant, producing tools that we were dependent upon in other countries like Germany.”
Commenting on his expectation from the forth-coming budget, Reddy said that he expected a reduction in the duty component, which is a significant component in the tooling industry. Inputs like carbide are not produced in India, requiring them to import. Reduction in duty component will help. He would also like the government to do more on ease of doing business.
