292 students were presented with certificates for Advanced Metal Cutting Technology at The School of Manufacturing Excellence

The India Skills Report 2022 conducted by Wheebox found that 75% of the companies surveyed reported a skills gap in the industry.

The School of Manufacturing Excellence, founded in 2018 by Sandvik Coromant with the Government of Maharashtra, the school educates students on advanced metal cutting techniques and provides them with the opportunity to develop their employability.

At this year’s awards ceremony, 292 students were presented with certificates for Advanced Metal Cutting Technology from B. R. Shimple, Principal of ITI, Kiran Acharya, managing director of Sandvik Coromant Asia and Prasenjit Kundu, CEO of Skillsonics India.

“The School of Manufacturing Excellence was developed to provide young people with a springboard into the manufacturing industry,” said Kiran Acharya. “The school is equipped with machinery and tools from Sandvik Coromant, such as computer numerical control (CNC) milling and tooling machines to help students gain practical skills that are vital in today’s smart manufacturing industry. After completing the course, the school supports students onto the career ladder by helping them to secure placements in the industry.”

Students received online training and guest lectures involving practical and theory sessions when India faced strict lockdowns.
