For more than three decades, Dynalog India has been a prime supplier of turnkey solutions for ground-based static, mobile, airborne, and naval applications ranging from missile launcher controllers to electronic warfare and communication systems. Dynalog India’s Managing Director, Akshay Adhalrao, share Dynalog’s journey since inception: How Dynalog has been a pioneer in holistic manufacturing, which has now been acknowledged by the government with recent funding by Maharashtra Defence and Aerospace Venture Fund, backed by IDBI Capital.
From Microprocessor Training Kits to rugged Defence & Industrial solutions. Tell us about Dynalog India’s journey.
‘To evolve’ has always been a large part of our 3 decade long story. We started as a brand many engineers still recall from their time in engineering, being the first made-in-India brand to deliver microprocessor kits to prestigious engineering institutions across the country. Being a new concept, one of our first initiatives with the top engineering colleges was to train the faculty on using our kits.
As we evolved into a leading PC based automation solutions provider for some of the largest manufacturing companies, we contributed to computing mobility and introduced industrial computers in India. Our systems were rugged enough to be used on the field, and computing was now possible on the shopfloor and workshops. Today, we work proudly across industries and the Indian defence sector in embedded computing, electronic automation and networking solutions.
In the next 2 Years Dynalog aspires to be a 100 Crore company with strong fundamentals in place to be a System Integrator having capabilities to be a single solution provider for the automation and electronic control needs of Industrial and Defence clients. It would also have technological tie-ups in place with global leaders in IIOT, Cyber security, UAVs & Military grade computing products.
What are the industry verticals that you cater to? What are the main areas of activity of the company?
For more than three decades, Dynalog India has been a prime supplier of turnkey solutions for ground-based static, mobile, airborne, and naval applications ranging from missile launcher controllers to electronic warfare and communication systems. Apart from the defence sector, Dynalog also has a robust portfolio of clients engaged in Industrial & Factory Automation, Surveillance, Oil & Gas, Power and Transportation.
Dynalog is one of the few Indian private-sector companies to significantly supply hardware solutions to the Indian Armed Force. Could you share with us details about the same?
Dynalog India’s association with the Indian defence sector is more than 25 years old. We began by undertaking reverse engineering projects for electronic hardware equipment which was largely imported in those days. As we gained deeper understanding of the end application and the core design of electronic systems, we started developing customized solutions for the armed forces. Soon we were supplying ruggedized electronic products such as controllers, MIL grade displays, Marine Grade Consoles & Display Systems, Rugged Ethernet Switches & LAN Converters. In addition to these stand alone products we have acquired capabilities to take up turnkey projects wherein we provide electronic control systems along with integration on electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems. We have successfully designed and delivered Remotely Operated Vehicles, Launcher Control Systems for various Missile Programs, Electronic Systems for Automated Laying of Mines, Marking of Minefields and even detonation of land mines. We have been a preferred vendor of several Defence PSU’s and System Integrators when it comes to critical and challenging applications.
Please tell us about your infrastructure and manufacturing facilities.
We are headquartered in Mumbai (15,000 sq.ft) which also houses our production, QA and testing facility in addition to other departments. We have in-house temperature chambers, ESD protected & anti-static assembly areas, conformal coating booths and UV light based PCB Conformal inspection system, salt spray corrosion test chambers, wire harnessing and braiding tools. In addition to this to ensure EMI/EMC compliance we make use of Spectrum Analyzers.
We also have an in-house mechanical fabrication facility in Mumbai that manufactures enclosures that can meet stringent defence requirements. This gives us a control over quality and turnaround time for final integration.
Bangalore (12,000 sq.ft) is our second biggest facility which has a production and integration facility along with trained and certified electronic assembly teams. We are upgrading this facility by installing Semi-anechoic chamber for EMI/EMC testing and Clean Room for Display and Special Electronics Assembly.
Design & Development activities are carried out from our Pune facility. We make extensive use of design and validation softwares for mechanical design, application development, thermal management and fault analysis.
Our set up is AS9100 certified since our products are extensively used in defence applications.
Dynalog recently announced a Strategic Fund Raise of USD 2.4 Million Funds from the Maharashtra Defence and Aerospace Venture Fund, backed by IDBI Capital. What are the projects that will come under this fund?
The investment from IDBI Capital backed MDAVF is a strong validation of Dynalog’s business model and track record over the years. This is also a vote of confidence from the financial community on the immense growth potential of the defence market in India. The investment would go towards strengthening our design and development team in Pune and Bangalore, expansion of our integration facilities and executing orders in hand. There are certain high value defence contracts that are on the verge of closing for which we would use the funds for timely execution.
