Volkswagen Pune achieves ‘Blue’ results

The Pune plant achieved 21.8% reduction in waste generated during production. | 

The Volkswagen Pune plant is one of the 27 Volkswagen production facilities worldwide that follows the ‘Think Blue. Factory.’ initiative that aims to reduce the impact on the environment, caused by their manufacturing processes, by 25% per car globally. Since 2012, the facility in Chakan has been contributing to this worldwide initiative with fruitful results. In 2013, the initiative achieved 21.8% reduction in specific waste generation, 17.4% reduction in specific water consumption, 10.8% reduction in specific CO2 emissions and10% reduction in specific energy consumption.

Mahesh Kodumudi, chief representative, Volkswagen Group India and president & MD, Volkswagen India, said, “We are on the right track towards achieving our set goals for reducing the impact on the environment due to manufacturing processes. Our results show how effective our strategies are. ‘Think Blue. Factory.’ is a part of our day-to-day work culture at the Pune plant.” Andreas Lauenroth, executive director, technical, Volkswagen India, said that in the last two years, their teams worked vigorously towards achieving the set goals.
