Setco Automotive, the largest clutch manufacturer in the MHCV segment, is nominated to supply Bharat-Stage-VI (BS-VI) compliant clutches to all MHCV manufacturers. The company, which has the largest design and validation facility for clutches in India, is ready for industrialisation for supplies from January 2020.
Setco is poised to strengthen competitive positioning with the advent of BS-VI norms, a crucial part of the multipronged growth strategy outlined by the company a few years ago. This follows an early involvement policy with its key customers, which ensures working closely together and exchanging data on a real-time basis, thereby implementing changes required on a fortnightly basis to meet the project timelines.
Jatinder S Gujral, CEO, Setco, said, “We are excited to be one of the first in MHCV space to receive BS-VI approval, which has been achieved with intense design & development focus and by leveraging in-house capabilities. This significant step would further reinforce our product offering. We aim to expand our portfolio by developing the new generation dual and double clutches for farm tractors. These products have undergone rigorous field testing in different farm applications and have completed the approval cycles with key farm tractor manufacturers. Starting 2019-20, we envisage progressive growth in the segment.”
The BS-VI emission norm would come into effect from 1st April 2020 across the country. The BS-VI products are customised engineering solutions for an engine and gearbox combination and hence solve specific engineering issues on NVH (noise vibration & harshness) for customers. This NVH package coupled with upsizing of clutches for BS-VI would increase the content per vehicle by 5-8%.
