India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India re-appointed Kenichi Ayukawa as Managing Director and CEO of the company for a period of three years with effect from April 1, 2019.
He was appointed on March 15, 2013, as S Nakanishi had attained the age of retirement.The decision was taken by the board in a bid to ensure continuity in operation ahead of the critical regulatory changes in 2020. Ayukawa played a pivotal role in helping Maruti Suzuki tide over the labour issue in 2013 and drafted a game plan that has helped the company grow its market share beyond 50%.
During his tenure, the company has introduced many new models, including mid-sized sedan Ciaz, SUV Vitara Brezza, premium hatchback Baleno and re-launch of its compact hatchback, all-new WagonR.
